The process of choosing a career path should start early when the students are in their 9th or 10th. This is the time when you can build up the required skills in them to take the career path leading to success.

A career should be the one that would require an individual to have continuous learning opportunities and growing themselves professionally and personally.

Today, individuals are not aware of his or her own abilities which they can turn into professional skills. Also, the employers are looking out for candidates who have the right knowledge, skills, continuous problem-solving abilities and lifelong learning skills. An individual’s career resonates his life’s work and so he or she must choose the career wisely which has to be creative, fun & challenging.

How to choose the right career

Self-Assessment
Assess yourself. Learn about your interest, values, soft skills and the personality type you have. Try to answer some self-assessment tests which are often called career tests in order to collect information about your abilities. This way you can make a list of occupations that fits right to your abilities.

Listing out occupations
After your assessment, you will have a long list of occupations you can choose from. Find occupations from the list that interests you. Some of these might be the ones you know a bit and want to further explore. Make a master list and add your interest to it.

Exploring the options
Now that you have made a master list, time to get some basic information about the sorted professions from the list. Find information about the types of job roles in each profession and the right education, training you would require to get into that profession.

Take advice
To know more about the professions that you shortlisted, you can approach someone from the same field that can guide you in taking the right decision to make a career choice. Doing this you can get firsthand knowledge about the careers on your short list.

Identifying goals
Identify your short-term and long-term goals. By doing this, you will involve more and eventually work in your chosen profession. Short-term goals are usually about 6 months to 1 year which you can achieve. These can be learning a new set of skills, getting experience in leadership and team-building, etc.Whereas long-term goals take 3 to 5 years to reach which can include achieving high positions in the industry you chose to start your career.
